If your LG Multi V system is showing error 200 — or CH200, or 2001 during commissioning — the system cannot work out which indoor unit is connected to which port.
This is a configuration fault, not a broken component, and it is one of the most common things we are called to on heat recovery systems.
What this means for your building
A Multi V heat recovery system can heat one zone while cooling another. To do that, the outdoor unit has to know exactly which indoor unit sits on which port of the heat recovery unit.
It learns this through auto pipe detection — a commissioning routine that maps the system.
Error 200 means that map is missing or wrong. Specifically, it fires when the number of indoor units the system detects does not match the number actually connected.
Without a valid map, the system cannot route refrigerant correctly. It does not know where to send what.
Why this keeps happening to some buildings
Here is the part worth knowing, especially if you have seen this code more than once.
Auto addressing and pipe detection must be re-run whenever an indoor unit PCB or heat recovery unit PCB is replaced.
If a contractor swaps a board and does not re-run the procedure, the system loses its map. It may work for a while, or partially, and then report the fault.
So error 200 usually traces to one of:
- A board replaced without re-running commissioning
- Indoor units added, removed or relocated during a fit-out
- A system commissioned incompletely from new
- Power removed from indoor or heat recovery units during other work
- Communication problems preventing the count from completing
Notice the pattern — this is nearly always the aftermath of somebody’s work, not a component wearing out. It is the LG equivalent of a system whose paperwork never caught up with reality.
How urgent is it?
Urgent. The standard response to CH200 shuts the outdoor unit down, so the system is out of service.
There is a setting that changes the response level so the system continues running with the fault present. We treat that with caution: running without a valid pipe map risks expansion valves being open where they should not be, and liquid refrigerant finding its way back to the compressor. That is a far more expensive problem than the one it works around.

What it typically costs
Low to medium, and often at the lower end.
There is frequently no part to replace at all. The cost is a technician visit to run the detection procedure correctly, confirm the results save, and verify the resulting map against the actual installation.
Cost rises only if the detection keeps failing because of an underlying communication or power problem, in which case that has to be found first.
What happens if you leave it
The system stays down, or worse, runs with a wrong map.
A system that thinks indoor unit 4 is on port 2 will send refrigerant to the wrong place. Tenants report zones heating when they asked for cooling, or units doing nothing while the outdoor unit runs. It looks like a comfort problem and gets chased as one, when the actual fault is that the system’s internal map is wrong.

- Confirm the actual number of connected indoor units against what the system detects.
- Verify every indoor and heat recovery unit has power — a unit that is off will not be counted.
- Check communication across the system, since detection cannot complete without it.
- Establish what changed — a replaced PCB is the most common origin.
- Run auto pipe detection and confirm it completes.
- Allow the results to save — power must stay on the main unit PCB for several minutes afterwards.
- Run manual pipe detection if the automatic procedure will not complete.
- Verify the resulting map against the physical installation rather than assuming it is right.
