Why not to restart it

That cleanup matters more than people expect. A compressor that fails electrically can push debris and acid through the refrigerant circuit. Skip the cleanup and the replacement compressor is at risk of failing the same way — an expensive lesson to learn twice.
What causes it

- Compressor motor gone to ground

That last cause is worth noting. L5 is often not where the problem began. A U0 refrigerant shortage left running is a recognised path to compressor failure.
